Activities and objectives of the Chiesa d’Inghilterra Association

 

The main activities of the Chaplaincies and Congregations of the Church of England in Italy are: to provide spiritual assistance in accordance with the traditions of the Church of England; to provide pastoral care to those who ask for it, whether professing the Anglican Communion or not; to promote ecumenical dialogue and unity among all Christians; to encourage and support cultural, spiritual and social activities in their communities, and to support the various causes promoted by national and international charities.

 

Furthermore, the objectives of the association Chiesa d’Inghilterra are perfectly aligned with the work carried out for centuries by the various Chaplaincies and Congregations spread over Italy. The association is a not-for-profit organization, and its purpose is to follow the principles of the Church of England, and, in the full knowledge that the spiritual work is intimately linked to social action, the promotion and implementation of all appropriate activities and social care.

Faith, doctrine and ministry

 

The association aims to bring together all the Anglican chaplaincies and congregations in Italy and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to the Confession and the Anglican tradition of the Church of England, and to facilitate, support and enhance the principles of the Church of England in Italy.

 

The association, directly or through its associates, carries out following activities:

 

a) Takes care and promotes amongst the faithful the profession and the continuation of the Christian faith in accordance with the Confession and the Anglican tradition of the Church of England;

b) Celebrates liturgical functions such as Mass, baptisms, communions, weddings, funerals, etc. according to the Confession and the Anglican tradition of the Church of England in its churches in Italy;

c) Provides spiritual assistance to the faithful residing in Italy who belong to the Archdeaconry of Italy and Malta, as well as assistance to citizens who are from or not from Commonwealth countries;

d) Promotes religious education including the creation of special structures such as churches, institutions for the education of the clergy, afternoon school, oratories, etc.;

e) Manages the publication and distribution of books and periodicals of religious interest;

f) Manages and maintains relationships with other Churches and religious denominations present in Italy, promoting collaboration and participation in conferences and round tables that promote ecumenical dialogue and unity among Christians. 

Social activities and support

 

The association directly or through its associates carries out, or may carry out in the future, the following activities:

 

a) Promotes and carries out all the relevant social and welfare activities such as kindergartens; nursery schools for the immigrant minority groups; youth hostels; accommodation and shelter centres; boarding schools; nursing homes; hotels; guest houses; holiday camps and other similar initiatives attached and connected to the needs that arise from the various local situations;

b) Organises conferences; events; committees; missionary campaigns; exhibitions; concerts; etc., directly or through its members; or other external bodies of the Church of England, to promote the faith and/or culture intended in the broadest sense (such as literature, art, theatre, music, sports, medicine, science, etc.);

c) Establishes mutual assistance associations and charities, promoting activities such as charitable purposes, by way of explanation and not limited to: care for the orphans, the elderly, the infirm, the sick, single mothers, the unemployed, the homeless, and disadvantaged groups; supports other assistance associations and charities, and its church members in Italy;

d) Provides material assistance to the faithful residing in Italy who are subject to the jurisdiction of the Archdeaconry, as well as the assistance to citizens who are from or not from Commonwealth countries.

 

The Association also may perform all acts and conclude all the actions necessary and useful for the achievement of social goals, collaborating with other associations or entities, national or foreign, that do similar activities or incidental to the association’s purposes.
